“The trees will tell their secrets to those that tune in.” - Steven Magee
Are you prepared to enter the Secret Forest? This mystery wrap is filled with the quiet surprises, beauty, and adventure inspired by hiking through nature. It’s time to gather your supplies and prepare for the journey. Choose colors that bring you joy, either shopping from your stash or from one of the many dyers who have created inspiring palettes. Share your colors and ask your questions in the ‘Getting Ready’ chat on Ravelry to connect with other knitters all over the world. Thank you for joining me in this woodland wonderland!
Want to see my previous mystery wraps to get an idea of what might be coming? Each of these used the same yarn requirements as this new design, so all of the kits will work for all four patterns. Keep in mind, this wrap is TOTALLY different from the other 3!
What to expect:
unique construction
lace
elongated and/or unique stitches
color changes
cable twists (no cable needle required!)
Rest easy! All techniques with charts also include written instructions. I’ve created tutorial videos to guide you through any new techniques. There is NOT any stranded colorwork, intarsia, or brioche. This design is intended for intermediateknitters, but could be suitable for an adventurous beginner.
Finished dimensions:
It’s a mystery! Take a look at Garden Variety, Just Beachy, and Mountain Musings to get an idea of the general size.
Hiking Supplies:
Needles:
Two sets of US 5 (3.75mm) needles (or as required to meet gauge); 40”/100cm or 47”/120cm length recommended (NOTE: in place of a second set of gauge needles, you can use needles of a smaller gauge, an extra cable, or scrap yarn)
Gauge:
BLOCKED: 20 sts and 40 rows = 4”/10cm in garter stitch after wet-blocking and pinning
UNBLOCKED: 24 sts and 48 rows = 4”/10cm in garter stitch before blocking
(NOTE: Gauge is not crucial, but it will affect finished dimensions and yardage)
Notions:
Required: 1 stitch marker and tapestry needle
Optional: 21 stitch markers (for repeats), blocking wires, pins, and mats
Yarn Requirements:
MC: 800yds / 732m fingering weight yarn
C1-7: 130yds / 120m fingering weight yarn in EACH of 7 colors
The sample for this design uses Miss Babs Yummy 2-ply in ‘Secret Forest’ kit, though other dyers have created kits to give you LOTS of options (see the full list here). This project also works great with stash and leftover yarns! Included is a section on ‘Curating Your Own Kit’ with suggestions for compiling your own palette.
